The Scout Hut has been a part of Wingham, on land leased from Dover District Council, for over 50 years. The majority of the current building is more than five decades old, and even when it was installed, it was a second-hand classroom. As you can imagine, it is now well beyond its intended lifespan.
To make matters more challenging, the building is situated directly over the old Wingham railway line cutting. Over the years, the ground has settled, causing the structure to deteriorate.
